THINGS WE DO
CAT VACCINATIONS
At Evervet, we believe that cat vaccinations are vital for the health and happiness of your beloved pets. Vaccinations protect our furry friends from a range of preventable diseases, ensuring they can live their lives to the fullest. By immunising your pets, you provide them with a strong defence against dangerous illnesses and help build a safer and healthier pet community.
Why Vaccinations are Important
Cat vaccinations are one of the most responsible and caring actions you can take as a pet owner. Vaccinations not only protect your cat from severe illnesses but also contribute to the overall well-being of the cat community. By vaccinating your furry companions, you help create a safer environment for all animals, promoting a healthier and happier community of pets.
Protection from dangerous diseases: Vaccinations protect your cat from dangerous diseases such as Feline Enteritis, Cat Flu and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). These diseases can cause severe illness and even death. Vaccinations stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies that can fight off these diseases and keep your pet healthy.
Prevention of zoonotic diseases: Some animal diseases such as rabies can be transmitted to humans. Vaccinating your cat against diseases like rabies and leptospirosis can prevent the spread of these diseases to humans.
Cost-effective: Vaccinations are a cost-effective way to keep your cat healthy. The cost of vaccinating your cat is significantly less than the cost of treating a serious illness. By vaccinating your cat, you can save money in the long run by preventing medical bills.
Peace of mind: Vaccinating your pet can give you peace of mind knowing that your cat is protected from deadly diseases. You can rest easy knowing that you are doing everything you can to keep your pet healthy.
Improved quality of life: Vaccinations can improve your pet's quality of life by preventing serious illnesses that can cause pain, discomfort, and even disability. By keeping your pet healthy, you can help ensure a happy and active life.

Kitten Vaccinations
Kittens are delicate little beings, and early vaccinations are vital in giving them a healthy start in life. The initial kitten vaccinations are typically administered around 8 to 9 weeks of age. These vaccinations protect them from diseases like Feline Herpesvirus, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia. Regular booster shots are given to maintain their immunity and keep them healthy throughout their adult lives.
Adult Cat Vaccinations
Cats need protection too! Vaccinations for cats are essential to safeguard them from diseases like Rabies and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). Annual cat vaccinations can help prevent the spread of these contagious diseases and ensure that your feline friends can lead long and comfortable lives.
What Diseases Are Vaccinated Against?
CAT DISEASES
Feline Enteritis
This disease causes severe fever, depression, loss of appetite, rapid weight loss, dehydration, vomiting or diarrhoea. It is usually fatal.
Cat Flu
Cat flu is a highly infectious disease in kittens that is very debilitating. We recommend vaccination against two cat flu viruses - Feline Herpes and Calicivirus. Symptoms include sneezing, nasal discharge, eye discharge, conjunctivitis, mouth ulcers and fever. Cases vary in severity. Some cats will show only mild signs and seem otherwise normal. However, some cats are more severely affected and are lethargic, lose their appetite and become dehydrated. Kittens infected with Feline Herpesvirus become lifelong carriers of the virus and may develop symptoms and be contagious on and off throughout their lives. Humans (and other species like dogs) are not affected by this virus.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
FIV belongs to a group of viruses that include Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Although HIV and FIV belong to the same family of viruses, it is not possible for FIV to be transmitted from an infected cat to humans. FIV is transmitted through fighting and bite wounds and, after an initial short illness, cats may remain healthy for several years. Ultimately the virus damages the immune system and infections or cancers may develop in FIV-positive patients. FIV vaccination is not 100% protective. The best protection is to make sure your cat leads a lifestyle that avoids contact with unknown or stray cats, in practical terms, this means living indoors. Accepting that this is not always possible, we recommend FIV vaccination for any cat that is allowed outside.
Protecting Your Pet’s Health
Safety First
Pet vaccinations are generally safe, and they play a crucial role in safeguarding your pet's health. Most pets experience only mild, temporary side effects, such as soreness or lethargy, which typically resolve within a day or two. Severe reactions are rare but possible. Be assured that our experienced veterinarians are trained to recognise and manage any adverse reactions should they occur.
Benefits vs. Risks
The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. By keeping your pet up-to-date on their vaccinations, you're helping to protect them from a range of preventable diseases, ultimately ensuring a long and healthy life.
Alternatives for Special Cases
We understand that some pets have unique health concerns or other factors that may make traditional vaccinations unsuitable. In such cases, alternative vaccination options can be considered. These alternatives may include:
Non-Adjuvanted Vaccine: Non-adjuvanted vaccines are designed to minimize potential side effects. They are an excellent choice for pets with sensitivities or previous adverse reactions to vaccines.
Titers Testing: Titers testing measures the level of antibodies in your pet's blood to determine if they are already protected against specific diseases. This can help avoid unnecessary vaccinations for pets with sufficient immunity.

At Evervet, we treat your pets as if they were our own, providing them with the best care and attention they deserve.
